Ulster X-Country Mountain Bike Championship Report

The 2014 Ulster Cross Country Mountain Bike Championships were held at Castlewellan Mountain Bike Trails on Sunday 24th August.

Hosts Banbridge Cycling Club had worked closely with Down District Council and Forest Service NI to create a course which combined the official trail centre trails, fire roads and sections of natural trail.  Stand out features of the senior course included the steps beside Castlewellan Castle, the bombhole and the infamous S-bend drop.

Event HQ was placed in prime position in from of the castle which provided an excellent view across Castlewellan Lake, forest and onwards into the Mourne Mountains.

Riders raced in range of categories from Under 6 through to Elite Men

Glenn Kinning from Kinning Cycles took the honours in the Elite Men category with Claire Oakley from Xmtb McConvey Cycles doing likewise in the Elite Women.
