Be Vigilant of Ash Dieback

Nov
23

With cases of Ash Dieback now confirmed in County Down and County Antrim, Forest Service Northern Ireland is asking mountain bikers to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to help try and prevent the spread of this devastating tree disease.

The potential threat from this disease (caused by the fungus Chalara fraxinea) is very real and statutory notices have already been served requiring destruction of around 5,000 affected ash saplings.

IMPORTANT: Mountain Bikers should always thoroughly wash all equipment including tyres and shoes if riding in a number of different forests.

Further information on the disease and information on reporting is available on the Department’s website
