Welcome to the Castlewellan Mountain Bike Trails powered by Chain Reaction Cycles.

One of Northern Ireland’s most famous lakes, a stunning Victorian Castle, incredible panoramic views and flowing singletrack; all just minutes from the lively village of Castlewellan.

Castlewellan Forest Park boasts all of this and more. With green, blue and red grade trails (including black options) Castlewellan is a must-visit for mountain bikers of all ages and abilities. Is is also open to ride 24 hours a day – however the car park closes at 8pm.

Getting There

By Car
Castlewellan is located just over 30 miles from Belfast and only 4 miles from the popular seaside resort of Newcastle.

Castlewellan Forest Park is located off Main Street. Follow the forest road (one way) down to the lake and keep left. The trailhead car park will be on your left hand side.

Bike Hire from £25 per bike* for 3hrs

1. Helmet – must be worn by the rider at all times

2. Accessories pack – for off-site hires, we supply a lock, tool, tube and pump

3. Support number – available 9am-5pm for telephone assistance

1. Damage Waiver – accidents happen! Protect against accidental damage to the bike with our Waiver Scheme – highly recommended for peace of mind – doesn’t include loss/damage to accessories including the use of the spare tube from £2.90 per bike

Gorse Hill Farm is a beautiful 4 star self catering cottage set in the heart of the Mourne mountains with unsurpassed views of Shimna valley, Slieve Meelmore and the hare’s gap.

It is ideally located for those interested in walking and mountain biking due to the close vicinity of Castlewellan, Tollymore forest park and the Trassey track.

The cottage is fully equipped with washing machine/tumble drier and has free wi fi access also. It is laid out in the form of one king size bed and a twin bedroom with 2 single beds and we can also include an extra bed for a small supplement to accommodate a 5th person if required.

We offer free parking on site and secure storage for bikes and each of the bedrooms have en suite showers plus there is a bath with shower attachment in the main bathroom.
